COLIN TELFER (1936-2016) - Colin Telfer worked as a winder/engine man at various West Cumbrian collieries for twenty years, moving around as the pits closed. When the last pit closed he worked as a window cleaner, then got a job at the Workington Steelworks. Once again he was made redundant, but got the opportunity to retrain at the age of forty. He enrolled on a two-year course at Carlisle Art College, where he discovered a way to make his mining sculptures using iron ore dust from Florence Mine in Egremont and resin. His works are now on display around Cumbria and Northern Ireland.
