Guidance on Sizes for Personal and Limited Editorial Use

The photos on this site have been taken over a number of years and so there is quite a range of sizes. In time I hope to be able to replace the smaller files, but some such as the aerial shots, will sadly be impossible to replicate.

Please ensure that the photo you like will be large enough for your needs:

FULL SIZE IMAGE

The exact size of every full size image is shown towards the bottom of the descriptive text.

  • The quoted dimensions refer to printing at 300 dpi (dots per inch) which will produce a high resolution picture for professional use.
  • For home printing it would be perfectly acceptable to multiply those dimensions by 1.5.
  • For a canvas print where fine detail is not essential, the dimensions could be multiplied up to three times.

6 MB UNCOMPRESSED IMAGE

Having a pixel count of 1773 x 1183 this file should produce:

  • A high resolution 15 x 10 cm (6 x 4 inch) picture for professional quality printing at 300 dpi
  • A medium resolution 22.5 x 15 cm  (9 x 6 inch) picture for home printing at 200 dpi
  • A low resolution 45 x 30 cm (18 x 12 inch) canvas at 100 dpi.

1.5 MB  UNCOMPRESSED IMAGE

Having a pixel count of 900 x 600 this file should produce:

A high resolution 7.7 x 5 cm (3 x 2 inch) picture for professional quality printing at 300 dpi.
A medium resolution 10 x 6.9 cm  (4 x 2.7 inch) picture for home printing at 200 dpi.
An image suitable for web use.
